DIY all natural liquid laundry detergent and fabric softener

Step by step we are replacing all store-bought cleaning products with natural DIY solutions. I have a very sensitive skin and it was always a struggle to find laundry products without toxins and perfume that smell good and that are gentle. Also we are trying to reduce our plastic and packaging use and most of the laundry products come in that thick plastic containers, ugh. There is no Planet B my friends, let’s do this!

When I went to our “Fair Unverpackt” supermarket (that offers everything in bulk and you bring your own containers, yay!) I saw that they sold grated castile soap and started to research. It is actually easier than you might think, to make your own laundry products, so let’s get to it:

For 1 Liter of liquid laundry detergent made in 5 minutes with only 4 ingredients, all you’ll need is:

• 20 g washing soda*

• 15 g curd or castile soap (without palm oil please) as a block* or already grated*

• 1 l boiling water

• 4-5 drops dōTERRA essential oil

+ 1 Liter bottle or old laundry detergent bottle and a funnel*.

1. Grate the soap or cut it into pieces with a knife.

2. Add grated soap and washing soda in a cooking pot and pour the boiling water over it.

3. Mix well with a whisk until all soap has dissolved and let it cool down for a few hours.

4. Add 4-5 drops of essential oil of your choice. I used my dōTERRA lemon since it has cleansing properties and smells divine!

5. Whisk once more, fill it in your bottle et voilà!

I use 1/4 cup per load.

Now let’s move on to the fabric softener. This is enough for 0.5 Liter and you can adapt the amounts to your bottle size:

• 500 ml white vinegar*

• 9 drops dōTERRA essential oil

+ your old fabric softener bottle and a measuring cup

1. Measure 500 ml white vinegar in your measuring cup.

2. Fill 250 ml of vinegar in your chosen bottle.

3. Add 9 drops of essential oils of your choice (I can only speak for dōTERRA essential oils, other brands can differ in quality and quantity). I used my 3 powerful cleansing oils Lemon, Wild Orange and Grapefruit.

4. Add the rest of the vinegar, 250 ml, into your bottle.

5. Shake it and it’s ready to be used!

I use 30ml per load and fill it directly in the fabric softener spot in the detergent drawer.
