Yoga props - our essentials and favourites
In my last newsletter, I presented our favourite yoga props and thought that this would be helpful for all yogis, who happen to visit my blog, so here you go :)
For starters: you do not need anything besides your body, to practice yoga. But, of course a few props are helpful, to support your body during your practice.
Yoga mat: There are maaaany yoga mats out there and over the years, we have tested many of them. Some are thin, easy to bring along in a suitcase, even foldable, others are thicker to offer a bit of padding for your joints. We like to go for the middle (‘The Middle Way’, as the Buddha called Buddhism, before it was called Buddhism ;) ).
The grip is quite nice to have, even though we have learned over the years, that over time we develop that inner grip, so that ideally we won’t slide anymore…anyway, we love a good grip!
So here are our favourites, in different price ranges:
Lotuscrafts ‘Pure’ mat - 62,95€*
Lotuscrafts ‘Mudra Studio’ mat - 26,95€*
(this one does not offer the best grip, but it is a good start)
*with 10% discount - use code ‘YOGA10’ at checkout on lotuscrafts.eu
lululemon ‘The Mat’ 5mm - 98€
(That is the one you’ll see me practicing on. As a Lululemon Ambassador, it was gifted to me, to try ♥)
Yoga blocks: Also here you have many different options. We have the cork blocks from Lotuscrafts (duo pack 31,45€*) for years and are super happy. They are a little bigger than the usual size, but you can also get them in the regular size (duo pack 26,95€*). We recommend to get two blocks. The blocks help you, to bring the floor closer to you, for example in a forward fold, to place the hands flat on the blocks, instead of the floor. They can also serve as support under your joints in restorative or yin yoga poses.
Yoga belt: We are huuuuge fans of the yoga belt! You can do so many wonderful things with it - the list is endless :) with 11,65€*, this is an affordable prop. Small price but big impact on your yoga practice!
Bolster: Here is the thing. There is one life before, and after owning a bolster - if you know, you know :) We have two of the ‘Restorative L’ bolsters from Lotuscrafts (58,45€*), but the second one just moved in recently and before having just one was also amazing. We are two yogis here and we like to practice together and also for some asanas, having two bolsters is just luxurious. It can also serve your practice in so many ways…the list is endless! Savasana with a bolster under your knees is a game changer.
Blanket: To be honest, you can take any blanket in your house, but if you like to have a special yoga blanket, we recommend the Savasana blanket from Lotuscrafts (35,95€*), since it is made from organic cotton and it is so nice and heavy on your body in Savasana, or final relaxation. If you roll it, you have a mini bolster and if you fold it, it can serve as a meditation cushion
Eye pillow: Again, you can use anything to cover your eyes, a sock, a scarf, a shirt. But if you would like to complete your yoga prop bundle with the dot on the ‘I’, we can recommend the eye pillow from Lotuscrafts (22,45€*), which is filled with flaxseeds and lavender, mmmh! We love to bring our personal eye pillow with us to a class or on retreat for hygiene reasons.
Let me repeat, all these items are helpful, but not absolutely necessary to practice yoga. They support you and your practice, but you can find other items in your house to use instead (big pillow as bolster, books as blocks, any blanket, etc.).
PS: If you have no props yet, Lotuscrafts also offers bundles, where you can save a bit of money and then just add what you need.
See you on the mat ♥ Namasté
